Communication along the value-chain is essential to ensure safe use and handling of nanomaterials.
On March 5, the VCI (the German chemical industry association) is hosting a Stakeholder Workshop on the topic "Nanomaterials – Information transfer along the industrial value chain". The key note lecture “What tools are available to ensure communication along the value chain?” will be given by Dr. Barbara-Christine Richter from the HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) Department of Bayer MaterialScience.
Bayer MaterialScience has committed to an extensive Product Stewardship program to ensure safe handling and care for the environment. The development of nanomaterials is proceeding within the chemicals industry’s Responsible Care® Global Charter framework. As part of this commitment Bayer MaterialScience has engaged in dialogue with different stakeholders in order to ensure the safe use and handling of nanomaterials.
Altogether, the Safety Data Sheet is the central communication tool along the value chain in terms of safety aspects. This legal instrument benefits from a long and positive experience in the chemical industry. Other tools, such as customer service, internet, or the technical data sheet, are also used to improve communication with the different stakeholders. Further, feedback from customers down the value-chain related to handling or applications is a valuable source of information and allows an overall improved safety concept.
